On behalf of over two dozen MBA, MSF and MAcc students; Welcome to OwenBloggers!

OwenBloggers, like any other blog, is a conversation with an audience. In this case, the audience is first and foremost the community of budding MBA applicants, interested in finding out if Owen is the right program for them.

The blog ‘s initiative is supported by the Owen administration but the content is self-directed.

Contrary to what you may think, these are real business school students, telling their stories because they want to help provide an unedited, uncensored view of life at Owen Graduate School of Management.

We hope you enjoy the content as much as we enjoy creating it. We encourage you to explore, ask questions and join the conversation in a way that you won’t find at perhaps any other business school.

Best Wishes,
Jared Degnan

Executive Team

Jared Degnan Chief Executive Officer :: Jared Degnan

At the intersection of the social media movement and mainstream marketing is where you’ll typically find Jared. An Atlanta native, Jared’s background includes a healthy dose of sales, marketing and other self-deprecating career moves before he finally decided to make the jump into business school here at Owen. His blogs and podcasts include a decidedly flavorful collection of experiences as well as plenty of tips on how to survive life as an MBA student

Colleen

Senior Vice President :: Colleen

Colleen was born and raised in Virginia, and attended college in Philadelphia. After getting her degree in “keeping it real”, she moved to Nashville to get her dose of the south. Focusing on Finance and Healthcare, she plans to save the world while making cobblers all at the same time. On any given day you may find her at a tailgate, the library, or espousing her views on certain income brackets and the people in them. You’ll be able to pick her out by the awesome shoes she’s sporting.

alex Content Advisor :: Matt

You don’t need to spend much time with Matt to understand that it’s generally not worth spending much time with Matt. He comes to us from DC, where he previously wasted your tax dollars at the Commerce Department doing something that we have not quite determined as yet. His posts focus mostly on the social aspect of moving to a new city/state/half of the country and what it’s like to go to business school with no formal background in business. He is a soft skills person. You do NOT want him in your stats study group. He is a consummte poser without a single shred of original thought in his body, so look out for him pawning off your ideas as his own.

alex

Content Advisor :: Neeraj

Neeraj was born and raised in Boston but comes to Nashville after living in San Diego for ten years. He completed his undergrad in biochemistry at UC San Diego and has been working in the R&D side of biotech, most recently in cancer diagnostics. He is in the Health Care MBA program at Owen and is looking to take advantage of the tremendous number of business opportunities in health care and perhaps even start his own company some day.

Asif

Asif is one of those few people you would come across who really couldn’t give you the answer to “where are you from?” in one sentence. Born in Bangladesh, growing up in Kuwait, boarding school in India and having lived in 8 different cities in the US in the past 14 years, he can tell you about his experiences being a real refugee to his perspective on living on both coasts in the US and the culture shock from moving to the South for his first job after college from NY. Asif’s blog will deal with entering academia again after an extended period in the “real world”.

Peter (Owen Alumni)
PeterHaving graduated from Owen in May of 2006, Peter soon found himself living in Washington, DC working for Corporate Executive Board, a fast growing research consulting firm. An avid golfer, photographer, and a self described gadget junkie, he now realizes that if he found some cheaper hobbies he probably would be able to afford to buy a place in the city. He is thrilled that OwenBloggers would ask him to write for the site, and hopes that other alum from across the years will participate as well.
