I tried Owen for one week, and look at me now!
I have been molded by Professor Nick Bollen into a financial machine. That might be a bit melodramatic, but I am hoping that he will read this post. I need all the brownie points I can get.
Honestly, I had absolutely no knowledge of financial principals before I arrived to Owen. On occasion I watched Mad Money on CNBC. I think all I gleaned from that show, however, was to buy stocks when the bull cartoon appeared. Also, I was an economics major, but I think that my former economics professors believed that finance was beneath them. Finance is too practical of a profession, and who needs a job when you can get a liberal arts degree?
Back to my point- before I arrived to Owen, I was dumb. Now- after a week with Professor Bollen, I know how to calculate present values of annuities, perpetuities, bonds, and stocks, I can model prices of stocks and options and calculate put- call parties, I can solve utility functions and levels of risk aversion.
I should be in an infomercial for Owen-“I tried Owen for one week, and look at me now!”
Granted, not everything is sunshine and flowers. I feel as though this (so far) has been harder than law school. In law school, I just had to learn how to “think like a lawyer”. Basically, that meant the ability to twist any argument into your favor. I didn’t feel as though I was learning in law school because I was blessed with the ability to construct an argument since I could speak. This wasn’t a blessing for my parents, but in law school, it was a talent. However, I felt as though I wasn’t learning concepts or anything that would help me make decisions once I entered my profession. Owen has been a welcome change. I still “ain’t used to all this learning," but I am excited and a little terrified about what is to come.

I'm assuming you meant "put-call parities," but you wrote "put-call parties." I would say, you know you're a finance major when you throw Put-Call Parties. Sounds fun to me.

No- I met parties. You mean you have never thrown/ been to a put-call party? I feel sorry for you.
