Poll: Should there be a college football playoff?
I love thanksgiving. It's a time for friends and family, for consuming calories like Michael Phelps, and for giving thanks for everything we have. Also synonymous with Thanksgiving is football. There is nothing better than scarfing down turkey and watching as the Detroit Lions lose (they always do) and the state of Texas battles it out in Austin. Later this weekend, college football will feature showdowns like USC/Notre Dame (blowout), Ole Miss/Mississippi State (who cares?), and Colorado at Nebraska (I'm going back to sleep). There are, however, some seriously important games that will make or break the future of several national championship contenders. While I'm busy getting style points for putting gravy on everything on my plate, teams like Texas, Oklahoma, Florida and USC will be hoping for style points by blowing out opponents for the sake of the BCS gods.
The entire BCS system makes me anxious for March Madness and its simplicity. As it does every year, the controversy over the BCS rankings will rear its ugly, with the traditionalists arguing it will take to long to complete a playoff and the purists claiming it's the only way to really see who is the best. Even President-elect Barack Obama voiced his feelings about college football when he said he will advocate for an eight-team playoff in college football.
So where do you stand? Is the BCS enough, or is a true playoff system the way to go?
