To już post?

Tak to już jest, jak się nie mieszka w Polsce, to się żyje innym życiem. Fakt, że dziś jest początek wielkiego postu dotarł do mnie dopiero jak zobaczyłam hasło o debacie. I nie jest to bynajmniej spowodowane religijnością, lub też jej brakiem, ale jak najbardziej trybem życia, który toczy się wokół szkoły i zajęć. Trochę to dziwne, że sama z siebie oddałam władzę nad sobą na dwa lata tylko po to żeby się czegoś nauczyć. Ale dziś nie o tym, dziś o poście i przemyśleniach. Wydaje mi się, że w dzisiejszych czasach okres wielkiego postu, oraz przemyśleń z tym związanych, jest bardziej potrzebny niż dawniej. Zagonieni w wyścigu szczurów zatracamy się w dniu codziennym i często tracimy cel.

Czy post powinien być okresem odmawiania sobie wszystkiego - nie wiem, a raczej nie wydaj mi się żeby to był sposób na zmuszenie ludzi do refleksji. Może powinniśmy odmówić sobie jednej rzeczy ważnej dla nas, a nie wszystkiego jak leci? A może po prostu powinniśmy spędzić trochę czasu sami ze sobą, zwolnić tępo i zastanowić się gdzie nas tak pcha? Wydaj mi się, że każdy z nas ma inną motywację i jedno rozwiązanie nie zaspokoi wszystkich potrzeb – a przede wszystkim, wielu się tylko zniechęci.

A jak ja rozwiąże postne umartwianie? Moje życie na pewno mnie nie rozpuszcza. Czy wstawienie sobie przypomnienia w telefonie, że nadeszła moja godzina rozmyślań na coś się przyda? Można by powiedzieć, ze raczej nie skoro nie mam czasu na nic. Ale z drugiej strony wiem jak jest mi to potrzebne. Bo widzę cel wielkości amerykańskiej tarczy anty-rakietowej, a jak nie jest to za bardzo pomocne ani w szukaniu pracy, ani też w życiu codziennym.

A co to żałoba narodowa?

Kolejna żałoba narodowa, ale nie wydaje mi się żeby to było widać w społeczeństwie. A na pewno nie wśród polityków. Kłócą się jak się kłócili, zachowują się równie chamsko, bezczelnie i bez poszanowania jak zwykle. Więc czym tak naprawdę jest żałoba narodowa, jeśli brak w niej refleksji? Niczym. Farsą.

Nie ujmując tragedii tego wydarzenia, i niepowetowanej stracie życia ludzkiego, nie wydaje mi się żeby ten wypadek zaliczał się do kategorii żałoby narodowej. Gdy zawaliła się hala w Katowicach, miało to piorunujące wrażenie na Polskę i na polaków. To nieszczęście powaliło nas na kolana i zmusiło do myślenia i refleksji.

Powinnyśmy myśleć o żałobie narodowej jako o czymś, co dogłębnie porusza naród i w pewnym sensie nasze jestestwo. Decyzje o ustanowienie żałoby narodowej, były nieco chybione, ale też i nasze zachowanie nie jest na miejscu. Może i my winimy naszym zachowaniem? Czy to nie nasza zachłanność na brukowe rozgrzebywanie cierpienia rodzin poszkodowanych nie podsyca tego medialnego cyrku? Może to nasz brak refleksji nad tą i nad innymi tragediami doprowadza to tego, że wyrażenie „żałoba narodowa” traci na wartości.

Hide your grandma's ID

I was talking to my mom this morning and she told me that she got an SMS telling everyone to hide their grandmother’s ID. It took me a second to realize what she was saying: how to fight the “mohair revolution.” This should automatically lead to the question: what is the mohair revolution? This seemingly simple question requires a history lesson in the brief history of Fourth Commonwealth (IV Rzeczpospolita). Started off as opposition to the Third Commonwealth or rather to the leftist government of the period and in 2004, Law and Justice (PiS) – main party and the driving force of the movement – came to power in national elections. Why did they win? Majority consensus in Poland states that it was due to the elderly, religious (especially listening to Radio Maryja) voting for the center of the spectrum. Mohair beret seems to be the favorite accessory, no it seems to be a necessity to this group.

As an important side note:
Radio Maryja – controversial religious radio station founded and led by Rev. Tadeusz Rydzyk (aka Father Director). Programming includes newscasts, different prayers, discussions of catechism, transmission of Holy Mass, and sociological and political programs. The controversy lies in the programming content. One of the Polish weekly magazines, Polityka, described it as "dominated by intolerance and authoritarianism." The radio calls itself as the “only entirely Polish radio station” and focuses its propaganda on nationalism, anti-Semitism, anti-communism and propagates anti-German prejudice. It also promotes xenophobia, homophobia, euroscepticism, and supports death penalty.

Coming back to the main issue, why hide the ID? The idea is that without identification, this powerful force of grandmas won’t be able to vote and thus reelect the current government. Polish politics is like a circus. Few weeks ago there was a poll on one of the major polish websites that asked people what they thought of the political cartoons. The most popular answer (39% of respondents) was that in comparison to reality no joke is funny. Scandal upon scandal, playing dirty with nothing sacred - that’s the current politics for you. However, in my opinion PiS had several successes and made few good decisions (OK, so maybe the choice of their coalition wasn’t all that well thought through). Looking at the recent polls, early elections are not harming them much. Their main opposition, Civic Platform (PO), is really keen to keep PiS out of the office and gain all the power for themselves. Now, there is nothing wrong with that, after all it is politics, but I don’t think that stealing someone’s ID is the way to do it.

The person that posted on their blog the original call to “action” amended it stating that it was a joke. I just wonder how many disillusioned youths will think twice about talking to their parents and grandparents about politics instead more direct means of stopping them from voting. There has been a lot of commentary on the topic ever since the text appeared for the first time, but now it’s like an avalanche: it’s texted, e-mailed, posted on blogs and so on. It’s great that young people are becoming more conscious about politics and that they are planning on going to vote. But we need a dialog and more openness in politics there.

We are tainted by the communist past and by a certain way of thinking. Many of the people in power today were actively involved in uprisings of the 1970’s and 1980’s (sometimes on the wrong side of the barricade) and as much as I understand that it’s difficult to throw down the shackles that bind us, for crying out loud, I wish they would act as if they were trying to govern a country and not fight like some small town scoundrels over who gets a cut of profits from the local fence.
