Holy Mother of God

My loyal readers (!) might think that I have disappeared off the face of the earth, however that is not the case.  I have just been sucked into the vast turmoil of the first couple of weeks at Owen Graduate School of Management.

During rookie initiation, I mean "Orientation", our schedules were set for us from sunrise to sunset every day, and we all just couldn't wait for the start of classes.  We all thought that taking a couple of classes per day couldn't be that much work.  We were positive that if we treated it like a full-time job (9am - 5pm), it would have been more than sufficient.  WRONG!...At least from my point of view.

During my first two weeks at Owen, my goal has been trying to get to school around 7:30 am and leave before 7 pm.  So far, I have yet to be able to leave Owen before 10 pm.  The first couple of weeks have definitely been very challenging, but if you take it seriously, you feel like you are staying on top of things including your readings, deliverables, etc., because the last thing you want to do is to play "catch-up" at this point in time.

Professors are as advertised.  They are very helpful and the Finance faculty is absolutely fantastic!  You can walk into any of the faculty's office with a question, and they will be glad to drop whatever they are doing and help you out.

Moreover, the student clubs at Owen are not just there for providing you another bullet point in your resume, they actually help you out about every aspect, ranging from resume reviews, industry knowledge, interview tips, mock interviews, alumni contacts and so on.

One thing I would like to caution prospective Owen students is the hidden fees you are going to incur before you even start classes.  Between the "Quant Camps" over the summer, orientation fees, books, club dues, Wall Street Week fees, etc., you should be prepared to spend around $2,000 over the summer and your first couple of weeks at Owen.

All in all, this is what I have been going through lately.  I left the school after midnight last Sunday night, but so far this week I managed to get in and get out on the same day, so it's been pretty awesome!

Owen looks like a big roller coaster ride waiting to happen, and I can't wait to make the best of it.  I want to make a difference at Owen and leave it a better place than I found it.
